AI visibility by category

Updated 2026-09-07 · recomputed every week

Ten software categories. Five buyer questions each — “what is the best CRM?”, “which one would you recommend for a small business?” and three more. Asked of ChatGPT twice over, every week, from a US location, with no brand named in any question. We count the share of answers that named each brand and publish the result here.

The point is not to crown a winner. It is that the list an engine reaches for is short, it is not the same as the search results, and most brands have never checked whether they are on it.

How we measure this

Each category has five fixed questions — the angles a buyer actually takes, not five rewordings of one. Every question is asked twice, because generative answers vary run to run and a single pass would be a screenshot rather than a measurement. That is ten answers per category per week, and the number beside a brand is the share of those answers that named it.

No question names a brand, so nothing on these pages is prompted. Extracted names are filtered so that headings, article authors and image alt-text do not get counted as products. Each week is stored as its own row rather than overwriting the last, which is what lets every board show what changed since the previous week.

These shares are mention rates, not quality scores. They describe what one engine said on a stated date. They are not a judgement about any product, and we publish no rating, star or quality ranking of a company we do not own.

Your category isn’t here?

The same measurement works on any category. Run a free AI visibility check on your brand — we ask ChatGPT your buyers’ questions and tell you whether your name comes back. About a minute, no account, no card.

Tracking those questions across six engines on a schedule — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Google AI Overviews — is what Geotally does from $19/month.
